Jacob was rebellious, sneaky, & conniving. Verse 10 says, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. Sometimes the furnace causes us to repent. (He is watching to see if He can choose us.) Sometimes the furnace is still high flames, even after we repent, because we are reaping the harvest of sin. Sometimes affliction is because we live on the earth, that the principalities of darkness still have dominion over since the fall.
We are called to take back dominion and restore the earth. It starts in our own heart first. As we grow, and become refined, He shows us how to gain outside of our self. He wants a people that He can use to make a way for others to come in to salvation and intimacy with Him. For His name’s sake.
Verse 13 got me good. As I read it, my spirit quickened to BELIEVE! 13 My hand also has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. If we can believe God is God, then we need to remember all His creation obeys and stands up at His voice. If the heavens and earth can respond like that, oh Lord I believe, help my unbelief. Those things you are needing, wanting, and hoping for………He is able. (He is able to give you what you need, want, or hope for if it is within His will. If your heart is right, all that you ever ask Him for is in His will. Asking for vanity and things of the world will go no where in God.) 16 says come near unto me, hear this……17 I am the Lord thy God which teaches thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou should go.
