Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews.
20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable until you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house.
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
28 Take heed therefore and to yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.
A couple of things jumped out to me. The Jews were lying in wait to stop the true Word, of who God is through Jesus. It caused Paul many tears and temptations (testings). His message from God was going to set people free from needing the religious leaders just for starters.
He said, I held nothing back that would increase you in knowing the Lord for yourself. At all cost, he walked in what he was called to do for the people. Even the religious Jews.
He told them, verse 28 be warned. First in yourself and then to the flock you are called by God to oversee. Feed the sheep. He told that to Peter 3 times. It was so the Lord’s heart. The sheep. The sheep. The sheep. They are so easily led astray. They so easily can learn their Shepherd’s voice as well though.
In verse 29 Paul knew the wolves were going to come in to devour. He was speaking to the leaders first. He said Heed! Guard God’s precious equity. Souls are the equity of heaven.
Women, I currently am being convicted of this very thing right now. After our one on one relationship to the Lord, then our spouse, if we have one. Then our children. But your first physical labor and purpose and charge from the Lord is the home. If we aren’t doing all of that in order with our whole heart, everything else is not eternal. We can win the world and lose our family. Our home is our first call. It should be our highest priority.
Even if we are single and empty nesters, some base makes a safe place for us to open our hearts to the Lord. It is the place we are trained for action, where we meet God one on one, where we are nourished, and physically rest.
Let’s turn our heart back to the home. So we can go out and be strong against the things that hate and devour what God loves. We are given a gift of nurture. It can raise nations for Christ. Even if we aren’t even a physical mother. We can nurture hearts that are without hope. We can nurture nature that will bring joy to those that see it. We can fix meals or treats and nurture through that. If we are not moved in our soul and spirit in compassion for those that are bound, to intercede and be a light and a joy, to be a standard of holiness where people say that is mean and judgmental, if we aren’t desiring and finishing our course like Paul in verse 24, then we have been hit with the spirit that was lying in wait for us. We have been made numb and bitter by it. It did it’s job. The only way to be sensitive and tender so that we can want our first priority, to be our first priority again, is to fall at His feet and say forgive me, Lord. Commission me again, and fill me with Your heart to do the precious call that can change the world one home at a time
